OA Policy — OMR Publication
OMR Publication is an open-access publisher. All journal articles published by OMR Publication are made immediately open access under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence. We assign DOIs via Zenodo and deposit/preserve final articles in Zenodo, Internet Archive and SSRN to ensure persistent access and long-term preservation. This OA Policy explains what immediate open access under CC BY 4.0 means for authors, readers, funders and institutions, how versions may be shared, and how the publisher supports compliance with funder and institutional OA mandates.
- Key points — short summary
- Immediate OA: All articles are published open access on publication (no embargo).
- Licence: CC BY 4.0 (authors retain copyright).
- DOI & archiving: DOI via Zenodo; publisher deposits VoR and metadata in Zenodo, Internet Archive and SSRN.
- APC: USD 200 charged after acceptance (see APCs & Waiver Policy). Waivers available for eligible authors.
- Preprints: Authors may post preprints prior to submission; declare preprint on submission.
- Self-archiving: Authors are free to deposit any version of their work (preprint, accepted manuscript, and Version of Record) in repositories. We recommend Zenodo for final deposits.
- Funder compliance: The policy supports major funder OA requirements (immediate OA under CC BY), but authors should confirm specific funder rules and metadata requirements.
- Scope & applicability
This policy applies to:
- All articles accepted and published in OMR Publication journals (currently: OpenMind Journal of Humanities, Arts & Creative Studies and OpenMind Journal of Multidisciplinary Innovation & Development).
- Editorials, commentaries and invited content unless otherwise stated in the article metadata.
- Licence & rights retained by authors
- Articles are published under CC BY 4.0. Under this licence:
- Authors retain copyright.
- Others may copy, redistribute and adapt the work (including for commercial use) provided they give appropriate attribution and indicate changes.
- At acceptance authors sign a short publication agreement granting OMR Publication a non-exclusive, perpetual right to publish, deposit and preserve the work while they retain copyright.
- Versioning & what may be shared (preprints, accepted manuscripts, VoR)
- Preprints (author’s original manuscript): Authors may post preprints publicly (institutional or subject repositories, personal websites) before submission. Preprints should include a citation to the eventual published version once available and must be disclosed at submission. Preprints are allowed and do not count as prior publication.
- Accepted manuscript (AM / Author Accepted Manuscript): Authors may deposit the accepted manuscript (the version after peer review but before publisher formatting) in repositories at any time. Under our policy AM may be made openly available immediately.
- Version of Record (VoR / Published PDF): Because OMR Publication publishes under CC BY 4.0, the VoR is available for deposit and reuse; the publisher will deposit the VoR and metadata in Zenodo and the article landing page will carry licence and DOI metadata. Authors are permitted to deposit the VoR in institutional or subject repositories immediately on publication.
- Archiving & DOI workflow (what the publisher does)
- On publication OMR Publication will:
- Assign a DOI via Zenodo and deposit the article and metadata there.
- Ensure an archival copy is placed in Internet Archive and SSRN as part of our preservation workflow.
- Include CC BY 4.0 licence metadata in the DOI deposit and on the article landing page (machine-readable and human-readable).
- These deposits help ensure long-term access and provide trustworthy copies for indexers.
- APCs, waivers & OA funding
- The Article Processing Charge (APC) for both journals is USD 200 (charged after acceptance). Waivers and discounts are available according to the APCs & Waiver Policy.
- Invoicing and payment do not influence editorial decisions — waiver requests are handled independently of peer review.
- Compliance with funder and institutional mandates
- OMR Publication ’s immediate OA under CC BY 4.0, DOI assignment and archiving practices are compatible with the requirements of many major OA funders and initiatives (for example Plan S principles around immediate OA and CC BY licensing).
- Authors should:
- Check specific funder or institutional requirements (some funders require particular metadata fields, repository deposits or funder acknowledgement wording).
- Provide required grant/funder metadata at submission (funding agency names, grant numbers) so we may include accurate metadata in deposits and DOI records.
- If a funder requires different licence conditions or additional metadata, authors should notify the editorial office at acceptance so we can assist with compliance.
- Repositories & recommended deposit practice
- Recommended repositories: Zenodo (preferred for DOI + preservation), institutional repositories, or appropriate subject repositories (e.g., SocArXiv, medRxiv where discipline appropriate).
- How to deposit:
- Preprint: deposit your author manuscript and mark it as “preprint”; include a clear title and author list and add a link to the journal submission where appropriate.
- Accepted manuscript: deposit AM and include the DOI/URL of the published article once available.
- VoR: authors are permitted to deposit the VoR immediately; however, the publisher will deposit the VoR in Zenodo on publication to ensure a single preserved copy with the DOI. Authors depositing the VoR elsewhere should include DOI and licence metadata.
- Metadata: When depositing, include author names, affiliations, ORCID iDs, funder names and grant numbers, keywords, and licence (CC BY 4.0). This aids discovery and funder reporting.
- Data, code & supplementary materials (OA expectations)
- Authors are required to include a Data Availability Statement and are encouraged to deposit datasets and code in public repositories (Zenodo recommended). Datasets and code should be clearly licensed — CC0 or CC BY is recommended for data; permissive software licences (MIT/Apache) are preferred for code.
- If legal, ethical or contractual constraints prevent open sharing, authors must explain these restrictions in the Data Availability Statement and provide access details (e.g., controlled access procedures).
- Third-party material and licence compatibility
- If an article contains third-party material (figures, tables, images) that cannot be relicensed under CC BY 4.0, authors must obtain permission for publication and clearly label such items as “Used with permission — not covered by CC BY 4.0.” Such exceptions should be disclosed at submission and will be clearly marked on the published article. Note: use of items not compatible with CC BY may restrict some reuses of the article.
- Metadata, machine-readable licence tags & discoverability
- OMR Publication will include machine-readable licence metadata on article pages (e.g., schema.org / Dublin Core tags) and in DOI deposits (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). Authors should supply complete metadata at submission (ORCIDs, funding, affiliations) so deposits are accurate and indexer-ready.
- Funders & reporting (what we provide)
- On request, the publisher can provide authors and institutions with confirmation of OA publication (invoice/funder statement, deposit metadata, DOI) for funder reporting. Authors should notify editorial@omrpublication.com if specific evidence or statements are needed for compliance reporting.
- Exceptions & special cases
- Embargo exceptions: The default is immediate OA with no embargo. Time-limited embargoes for datasets or exceptional legal/patent reasons may be considered on a case-by-case basis when justified at acceptance; these must be documented in the Data Availability Statement.
- Guest or invited content: Some invited pieces (e.g., commissioned editorials) remain OA under CC BY by default; any exception will be stated in article metadata.
- Monitoring & policy review
- OMR Publication periodically reviews OA practices to align with funder mandates, discovery services and best practice. Substantive changes to this OA Policy will be posted on the site with an effective date.
- Practical guidance for authors — short checklist
- At submission: declare any preprint and provide funder/grant information.
- If you need open data: deposit datasets in Zenodo (or other suitable repository) and include DOIs in the manuscript.
- At acceptance: be prepared to receive an invoice (APC USD 200) or submit a waiver request if eligible.
- On publication: cite the DOI, use the CC BY 4.0 statement, and deposit copies in institutional repositories if desired (VoR permitted).
- Sample OA statements for articles (copy for production)
- Standard OA line: “This article is published Open Access under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence. DOI: [Zenodo DOI].”
- APC disclosure (metadata): “Article processing charge: USD 200 (paid by [Author / Institution / Funder]).” — or “Article processing charge: waiver granted.”
