Open Positions — role descriptions (copy-paste friendly)
1) Editor (Editor-in-Chief / Associate Editor / Section Editor)
Role overview: Lead editorial decisions for a journal or subject section. Ensure quality, integrity and timeliness of the peer-review process.
Key responsibilities:
- Oversee desk triage and peer-review assignment; make final recommendations/decisions.
- Appoint and coordinate with reviewers and editorial board members.
- Ensure editorial policies, ethical standards and style guidelines are enforced.
- Contribute to strategic development (special issues, indexing applications).
Required qualifications: - Established publication record in relevant discipline; prior editorial experience preferred.
- Strong network of reviewers and scholars.
- Commitment to editorial independence and COPE-aligned ethics.
Time commitment: 3–8 hours/week (varies with submission volume).
Remuneration / status: Usually voluntary/role-based honorarium negotiable for senior roles; official terms agreed in appointment letter.

2) Reviewer (Ad-hoc / Standing Reviewer)
Role overview: Provide timely, constructive peer reviews for assigned manuscripts.
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver objective, confidential reviews according to reviewer guidelines and timelines.
- Declare conflicts of interest.
- Suggest improvements and appropriate literature.
Required qualifications: - Advanced degree (PhD preferred) or equivalent professional experience; published work in the subject area.
- Prior reviewing experience is an advantage but not mandatory for early-career researchers willing to be mentored.
Time commitment: 4–8 hours per review on average; variable.
Remuneration / status: Volunteer. Reviewer recognition certificates available; possible APC discounts at publisher discretion.

3) Advisor (Strategic / Subject Advisor)
Role overview: Offer high-level strategic advice on journal scope, indexing applications, policy development, and outreach.
Key responsibilities:
- Review and advise on editorial policies, indexing strategy, and journal development.
- Support networking with societies, institutions and indexers.
- Mentor editorial teams when requested.
Required qualifications: - Senior academic or industry leader with a significant record of scholarship or publishing leadership.
- Experience with indexing or academic governance preferred.
Time commitment: Advisory meetings (1–4 per year) + occasional consultations.
Remuneration / status: Honorarium negotiable; appointment formalised by letter.

4) National Representative (Country / Regional Representative)
Role overview: Act as the local point of contact to raise awareness, solicit submissions, and help recruit reviewers/editors in their country/region.
Key responsibilities:
- Promote the journal and calls for papers locally.
- Identify potential editorial board candidates and reviewers.
- Support local outreach (workshops, webinars).
Required qualifications: - Strong academic or professional network in the assigned country/region.
- Good communication skills; bilingual skills are an advantage.
Time commitment: 2–6 hours/month.
Remuneration / status: Volunteer; modest local travel expenses for approved events may be reimbursed.

5) Editorial Assistant (Part-time / Volunteer)
Role overview: Provide operational support for manuscript handling, communications, copyediting coordination and production tracking. Ideal for early-career professionals or students.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage submission paperwork, author correspondences and reviewer invitations.
- Track manuscript status in the editorial system.
- Assist with basic copyediting checks and metadata entry.
Required qualifications: - Diploma/degree and interest in scholarly publishing; excellent organization and written English.
- Experience with Word/Google Docs, basic HTML helpful.
Time commitment: 6–12 hours/week (flexible).

6) Acquisition Executive (Business Development / Partnerships)
Role overview: Identify institutional partners, sponsorship opportunities, and collaborations that support the publisher’s sustainability and indexing goals.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop institutional partnerships, negotiate agreements for APC coverage or institutional arrangements.
- Seek indexing, library and society partnerships.
- Assist with marketing strategy for journal visibility.
Required qualifications: - Experience in sales, business development, or publishing partnerships. Strong communication and negotiation skills.
Time commitment: Part-time or contract basis; targets-based.
Remuneration / status: Paid or commission-based; terms negotiated per contract.

7) Other (Volunteer roles, interns, short-term project roles)

A: Most editorial and reviewer roles are voluntary. Some operational and partnership roles (e.g., Acquisition Executive, certain project roles) may be paid or contract-based. Compensation terms are specified in the appointment letter.
